In light of the recent speculation regarding the future of the Championship and ahead of the RFU’s Council meeting this week, National League Rugby wish to offer their views on the ongoing situation.

Ealing Trailfinders and Doncaster Knights are waiting to find out whether they are eligible for promotion to the Premiership and this has an impact on National One, as do the proposals for English rugby’s second tier.

National League Rugby Chairman John Inverdale commented: “There has been a lot of lively debate about the Championship proposals amongst clubs and there is understandable scepticism surrounding this. On Friday, the RFU Council will hear a variety of views on the subject.

“There have been some widely speculative headlines in the papers, but the council will consider all views and we will wait with interest to see what the outcome is.”
